Shana Hazan, President of Hazan Strategies
A seasoned nonprofit executive and community leader, Shana understands the challenges organizations face – from designing and implementing impactful and innovative new initiatives and securing public and private funding, to influencing public policy and increasing board and staff engagement.
Shana began her career in journalism and public relations and served as a public school teacher before spending nearly 15 years as a nonprofit leader. She brings well-honed firsthand insight into leading large organizations and small grassroots startups. After serving on numerous boards and commissions, she understands how to develop effective governance teams and cultivate strong partnerships between staff and board members.
Shana has the unique ability to take bold new ideas and translate them into clear and actionable steps to ensure long term success.
Most recently, Shana served as the Chief Philanthropy Officer at Jewish Family Service of San Diego. She currently serves on the state of California’s First 5 Commission, the City of San Diego’s Human Relations Commission, and as President of the Friends of Franklin School Foundation.
Shana has designed and launched innovative new projects and secured grants, contracts and major philanthropic gifts to sustain them. She understands that there is no such thing as one size fits all and works with each client to ensure you receive a customizable solution that works for your organization.
Throughout her career, Shana has guided staff and volunteers with a mindful, solution-oriented approach to problem-solving. A strategic thinker, she helps people gain a better understanding of who they are while identifying the tools they need to achieve success.
As a former educator, she is a skilled and engaging facilitator who brings sessions to life for participants.
Shana holds a master’s degree in Education and Social Policy from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin.
